Myrtle Beach State Park

Myrtle Beach State Park is one of the easiest ways to experience a calmer side of the coast without travelling far from the resort area. The park protects a stretch of beach and coastal environment that feels noticeably different from the hotel-lined shoreline farther north.

If several days of attractions and busy beaches start to feel repetitive, this is where I would go for a change of pace.

Beach and coastal forest

The ocean is still the main attraction, but the park also includes maritime forest and opportunities to learn more about the natural environment of the South Carolina coast.

A fishing pier extends into the Atlantic and provides another perspective on the shoreline, whether or not you plan to fish.

Give nature some room

Wildlife and seasonal natural events are part of the park experience, so follow posted rules and avoid disturbing protected areas.

Admission, opening times and access arrangements can change, so check current state park information before visiting.

I like Myrtle Beach State Park because it requires almost no sacrifice in convenience. You remain close to restaurants and hotels, yet the atmosphere becomes more about dunes, trees and ocean than signs and attractions.

For families, walkers and anyone who wants a quieter beach day, it deserves a place alongside the better-known Myrtle Beach sights.
