Surfside Beach sits just south of Myrtle Beach and offers a slightly calmer alternative to the central resort area. You are still firmly on the Grand Strand, with a broad Atlantic beach and plenty of vacation accommodation, but the scale feels more manageable.
For families or travellers who want the beach to be the main event, Surfside can make a practical base.
A quieter stretch of the Grand Strand
The shoreline is the obvious attraction. Rather than planning a long list of sights, this is somewhere to build the day around swimming, walking and time on the sand.
Restaurants and everyday services are close enough that you do not need to drive back into central Myrtle Beach for everything.
Stay here or visit for the day?
If most of your plans involve the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk, Broadway at the Beach and attractions farther north, staying centrally may be more convenient. If you prefer a more beach-focused holiday, Surfside becomes much more attractive.
Its location also works well for excursions south towards Murrells Inlet, Huntington Beach State Park and Brookgreen Gardens.
I would choose Surfside Beach when you want access to Myrtle Beach without feeling that you need to live in the middle of its busiest resort strip. It is close enough for attractions, yet different enough to change the pace of the trip.
