Rainy Day in Myrtle Beach

Rain does not have to ruin a Myrtle Beach vacation. In fact, the destination has so many attractions precisely because visitors occasionally need something to do away from the sand.

Head indoors

Broadway at the Beach is a useful starting point because multiple attractions, shops and restaurants are concentrated in the same general area. Which indoor venues appeal most will depend on your group, so check the current lineup.

Shopping centres, cinemas, arcades and other entertainment options across the Grand Strand provide additional choices.

Make food part of the day

A rainy afternoon is a good excuse for a longer lunch rather than treating every meal as something squeezed between beach sessions. Try seafood, Southern cooking or another local restaurant you might otherwise have skipped.

Do not fear every cloud

Coastal weather can change quickly. A forecast showing rain does not necessarily mean an entire day indoors, so keep your plans flexible.

Thunderstorms are different: leave the beach and water when dangerous weather approaches and follow official safety guidance.

I would keep one or two indoor ideas in reserve rather than pre-booking an elaborate bad-weather schedule. If the sun returns after lunch, you can go straight back to the beach.

Myrtle Beach is easiest when you treat the weather as something to work around rather than something that controls the entire vacation.
